Our winter tree
This project started by observing the children discussing about the trees outside. Some of the children were saying that “in winter, the trees were losing all their leaves and that we can see the branches of all the trees”.
Therefore in order to develop and support the interest of the children, I gave the children a huge piece of paper and some black and silver paint. Also i asked the children what sizes of paint brushes they would like to have to paint the tree, and most of the children have chosen long and thin paint brushes. Some of the children figured out that the branches of the tree were very fragile to paint on.
Whilst painting, the children were mixing their own colours and were working on finding the right texture of the paint to apply on the winter tree. The children were very gentle applying the paint on some parts of the tree and they also painted some large and thin black spots on the branches of the tree by saying that “the tree had chicken pox”. Moreover some of the other children were saying that “the tree must be very cold” and that “it was very dark outside”.
Then when the tree was finished I asked the children were would be the best place to put the tree? And the children replied: “on the big wall”. Then the children and I started to think of giving a name for the tree and we all agreed to call the tree: “Our winter tree”.
The children showed their tree to their friends and their parents and they were talking about it with a lot of enthusiasm and pride.
What an amazing learning journey!!!!
Thank you very much to all the children for being so inspiring!!
