Winter project

This inspirational project started at the beginning of January 2017 and ended the first week of February 2017. I would like to mention that the age range of the children was between 2 and 3 years old.

The whole project started by the children talking about the weather outside. The children were saying that in winter it was frosty and cold. Some of the other children were asking if it might snow and began talking about snowmen.

We started talking about the colours, shapes and clothing of the snowmen and we gave the children various open materials in order to nurture their own creativity and imagination for making their own individual snowman. The resources provided to the children were some of natural material such as wood sticks, pine cones, stones as well as other different resources such as clay, paint, pencils, cottons and coloured chalks. Then the children used some white paint and transparent plastic sheets to represent the snow and the ice of the winter season.

Moreover we discussed with the children about the winter animals, winter food, winter clothes, winter weather and the winter colours. All along this amazing project each individual child had the full opportunity to share their own ideas, creativity, imagination and questions with the other children and the adults. All the children’s comments are displayed on the wall as you can see on the photos.

This fantastic project has been a great learning journey for everyone and I would like to say a big thank you to all the incredible children that have been the essence of starting this amazing and very creative project.
